On March 25th, 2017 (the first) China Overseas Development Area Summit (CODAS---China Overseas Development Area Summit) was held in the Xingshen Building of Nankai University. This forum is co-sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission International Cooperation Center and the Center for Transnationals’ Studies of Nankai University, with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, China South-South Industrial Cooperation Center and the Socialist Economic Construction Collaborative Innovation Center with Chinese Characteristics as supporting units. Nearly 300 representatives from Chinese enterprises, major national industry associations, and academic circles that have established economic and trade cooperation zones abroad attended the forum.
Hosted by Professor Guoming Xian, director of the Center for Transnationals’ Studies and Institute of International Economics of Nankai University, the forum officially started at 9 am. Ke Gong, president of Nankai University, Xiaoqiang Zhang, executive vice chairman and executive director of the China International Economic Exchange Center, Han Luo, honorary chairman of the "One Belt One Road" International Industrial Capacity Cooperation Park Alliance, and Weishan Zhu, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Commission of Commerce, delivered speeches.
By holding the China Overseas Cooperation Zone Forum, focusing on the new opportunities and tasks of overseas cooperation zones under the new situation of the “One Belt One Road”, representatives of the government, business, academia, and international organizations will gather together to explore the sustainable development direction of overseas cooperation zones, ways and policies and to share results and experiences. The forum is committed to gather resources and wisdom from all parties to build a mechanism and platform for sharing, co-construction and sharing, and to form a continuous forum activity. The holding of this forum will strongly promote the theoretical, practical, and policy research on China’s overseas cooperation zones.
The Center for Transnationals’ Studies and Institute of International Economics of Nankai University will continue to conduct research on theories and policy issues related to the "One Belt One Road" and China's overseas cooperation zones. The center and research institute will focus on major theoretical and practical issues in international economic development and cooperation under the new situation, and strive to serve the national development strategy and Tianjin's economic and social development.
